What is a dental specialist in oral surgery?
A dental specialist in oral surgery has completed several years of advanced training in dental surgery following dental school and has passed an examination administered by the State Dental Board. Only those who can provide proof of this are permitted to use the title.
Reza Hakimi, D.D.S., M.Sc., is a specialist in oral surgery and also holds a Master of Science in implantology.
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS) have studied both medicine and dentistry and also treat areas outside the oral cavity. Procedures performed in the mouth, such as wisdom tooth extraction or dental implants, fall under both specialties.

Frequently Asked Questions About Oral Surgery
Do I need a bank transfer?
No. You can book an appointment directly. If you have a referral, please bring any X-rays you have with you.
Will health insurance cover the procedure?
Medically necessary procedures, such as wisdom tooth extraction or apicoectomy, are generally covered by statutory health insurance. Implants and twilight sedation are usually paid for out of pocket; you will receive a cost estimate in advance.
Will I be awake during the procedure?
With local anesthesia, yes. The treatment area is numbed, but you will still feel pressure and touch. Under twilight sedation, you will be largely unaware of the procedure and will breathe on your own.
How long will I be limited in my activities after having my wisdom teeth removed?
Swelling and a feeling of tightness are common in the first few days. How long you should take it easy depends on the extent of the procedure; we’ll discuss that beforehand.
Do you also treat anxious patients?
Yes. For patients who are very anxious, we offer treatment under twilight sedation and take the time to answer your questions during the initial consultation.
