Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do you have questions about our treatments? Here you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about fixed teeth in a day, ceramic implants, comprehensive dental restoration, and Botox treatment for CMD. We’d be happy to assist you personally if you’d like more information.

Permanent Teeth in a Day

  • What are same-day dental implants?

"Fixed teeth in a day" refers to a treatment concept in which edentulous jaws or severely damaged teeth are restored with fixed dental prostheses supported by implants, often on the very day of surgery. In this procedure, 4–6 implants are placed per jaw, onto which a temporary fixed prosthesis is immediately attached. After the healing phase (3–6 months), the final prosthetic restoration is placed. This procedure is also known as All-on-X.

  • How long does the treatment for fixed teeth take in one day?

The surgical phase typically takes 3–6 hours per jaw, depending on the individual findings. You will receive a temporary fixed dental prosthesis on the day of surgery or shortly thereafter. The entire treatment, including the healing phase and final restoration, takes 4–6 months. At our practice, you’ll benefit from state-of-the-art 3D planning, which makes the procedure more precise and less invasive.

  • How much does All-on-X cost at Dr. Hakimi's office in Berlin?

The cost of an All-on-X restoration at Dr. Hakimi’s office varies depending on the individual treatment requirements, the chosen implant system, and the prosthetic restoration. You will receive a detailed cost breakdown following a comprehensive examination and 3D diagnostic evaluation. We will provide you with a transparent treatment and cost plan that you can submit to your health insurance provider.

  • Can All-on-X be performed even in cases of bone loss?

Yes, the All-on-X concept was developed specifically for patients with bone loss. Thanks to the special positioning of the implants—the posterior implants are placed at an angle—existing bone structures can be utilized optimally. In many cases, this eliminates the need for extensive bone grafting. Dr. Hakimi has many years of experience with immediate implant placement, even in cases of limited bone volume.

  • How painful is All-on-X treatment?

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or, if desired, under sedation (twilight sleep), so you will not feel anything during the procedure. Mild swelling and discomfort are normal in the first few days after surgery and can be easily managed with pain medication. Most patients report that the discomfort is significantly less than expected. The swelling subsides noticeably after just 2–3 days.

  • How long do All-on-X implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular professional follow-up care, All-on-X implants can last 20 years or longer. Long-term studies show success rates of over 95% after 10 years. Regular checkups, professional implant cleaning, and personal oral hygiene are crucial. At Dr. Hakimi’s practice, you’ll receive a structured follow-up care plan to ensure the long-term preservation of your dental restoration.

Ceramic implants

  • What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium or ceramic that is surgically placed into the jawbone. After the healing period (2–6 months), the implant fuses firmly with the bone and serves as a stable foundation for crowns, bridges, or dentures. Implants are the highest-quality form of dental restoration and most closely resemble natural teeth.

  • How much does a single dental implant cost in Berlin?

The cost of a single dental implant, including the crown, ranges from €1,800 to €3,500 at Dr. Hakimi’s practice, depending on the implant system, the crown material, and any necessary preparatory treatments, such as bone grafting. High-quality ceramic implants or aesthetically sophisticated restorations in the anterior region may cost more. We will provide you with a detailed cost estimate following your examination.

  • How long does it take for an implant to heal?

The healing period is usually 2–3 months in the lower jaw and 4–6 months in the upper jaw. During this time, the implant fuses firmly with the bone (osseointegration). If bone quality is good, immediate implant placement is also possible, in which the implant is placed immediately after tooth extraction. After the healing phase, the permanent crown can be placed.

  • Am I too old for dental implants?

No, there is no upper age limit for dental implants. The decisive factors are not age, but rather overall health and bone quality. Even patients over 70 or 80 years of age can successfully receive implants. In cases of certain pre-existing conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes or a history of radiation therapy, particularly careful planning is necessary. We will provide you with personalized advice on your options.

  • What can I eat after the implant is placed?

For the first 2–3 days, you should stick to soft, lukewarm foods (soups, porridge, yogurt, smoothies). Hot beverages, spicy seasonings, and hard foods should be avoided. Starting on the 4th day, you can gradually transition back to your normal diet. If you receive immediate fixed dentures, you will be given specific dietary recommendations for the healing phase. Once healing is complete, you can eat anything again.

  • Does health insurance cover the cost of implants?

Statutory health insurance plans generally do not provide a subsidy for the implant itself, but they do offer a fixed subsidy for the crown based on the diagnosis (as is also the case with conventional dental restorations). With a bonus booklet, this subsidy increases by up to 30%. Private health insurance plans cover 50–100% of the costs, depending on the plan. We will prepare a detailed treatment and cost plan for your insurance provider.

COMPLEX DENTAL RESTORATION

  • What is complex dental restoration?

Complex dental rehabilitation refers to the comprehensive surgical and prosthetic restoration of chewing function and aesthetics in cases of severely damaged dentition. This includes the removal of teeth that cannot be saved, bone grafting, implant placement, and the fitting of high-quality dental prostheses. Dr. Hakimi specializes in so-called “hopeless cases,” which other practices often give up on.

  • How long does a complete dental restoration take?

Depending on the initial condition, a complex dental restoration can take 6 to 18 months. The surgical phase—which includes tooth extractions, bone grafting, and implant placement—can be carried out over several appointments or as part of a comprehensive restoration. During the healing phase, you will wear temporary dentures. Once osseointegration is complete, the final prosthetic restoration will be placed. We will create a personalized treatment plan for you with a detailed timeline.

  • How much does a full set of dentures cost?

The cost of a complex dental restoration varies greatly depending on the initial condition and the chosen treatment option. It typically ranges from €15,000 to €45,000 for both jaws. Factors include: the number of implants, the need for bone grafting, the type of dental prosthesis (removable vs. fixed), and the materials used. Following a thorough diagnostic evaluation, we will provide you with a transparent cost estimate that includes various treatment options.

  • Can a full set of teeth be restored in a single visit?

Under certain conditions, a complete rehabilitation can be performed in a single session (Full Mouth Rehabilitation). This involves performing all necessary extractions, implant placements, and the fitting of temporary dentures on the same day. This requires sufficient bone quality, good overall health, and detailed 3D planning. The procedure is usually performed under sedation and takes 6–8 hours. For many patients, this is the preferred option.

  • Is it possible to restore teeth even if you have periodontitis?

Yes, periodontitis is often the reason why dental restoration is necessary. However, before implant placement, the periodontitis must be treated and the inflammation resolved. This is achieved through professional teeth cleaning, surgical periodontal therapy if necessary, and the removal of teeth that cannot be saved. After a healing period and once oral health is stable, the implant restoration can be performed. Dr. Hakimi is a specialist in periodontal surgery.

  • How painful is a complete dental restoration?

Thanks to modern anesthesia techniques, the procedure is pain-free. In addition to local anesthesia, we also offer sedation (twilight sleep), so you can sleep through the procedure in a relaxed state. Swelling and discomfort are normal after the surgery and can be easily managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Most patients are surprised to find that the discomfort is significantly less than they had feared. The worst of it is over after 5–7 days.

BOTOX FOR CMD AND TEETH GRINDING

  • What is CMD (craniomandibular dysfunction)?

CMD refers to functional disorders of the masticatory system caused by abnormal stress on the temporomandibular joint and the masticatory muscles. Common symptoms include jaw pain, limited mouth opening, clicking or grinding noises in the temporomandibular joint, headaches, neck stiffness, and ringing in the ears. Causes may include stress, malocclusion, nighttime teeth grinding (bruxism), or trauma. Treatment often requires a multimodal approach.

  • How can botulinum toxin help with teeth grinding?

Botulinum toxin is injected directly into the masticatory muscles and can reduce muscle activity. This is intended to reduce pressure on the teeth and the temporomandibular joint. The effects usually begin after a few days and wear off after a few months. We will discuss the effects, suitability, and limitations of the treatment on an individual basis. We cannot guarantee specific results in any particular case.

  • Is Botox safe for CMD?

Yes, treatment with botulinum toxin for CMD and bruxism has been established in dentistry and oral surgery for years. Dr. Hakimi is a specialist in oral surgery with specialized training in this application. The dosage is medically indicated and is significantly lower than the amounts used for cosmetic purposes. Side effects are rare and usually temporary (mild weakness when chewing hard foods during the first few days). The treatment is reversible.

  • How much does a Botox treatment cost at CMD?

The cost of a Botox treatment for CMD at Dr. Hakimi’s practice ranges from €300 to €600, depending on the required dosage and the number of injection sites. The effects last 3–6 months; after that, the treatment can be repeated as needed. Since this is a medically indicated procedure, some private health insurance plans may cover part of the costs. Statutory health insurance plans generally do not cover the costs.

  • How quickly does Botox work for jaw pain?

The effects of botulinum toxin typically begin within a few days and continue to develop over about two weeks. The extent of the effects varies from person to person. They usually last three to six months and then gradually wear off; the treatment can be repeated if necessary. We will discuss whether this treatment is right for you and what results you can realistically expect during a personal consultation. We cannot guarantee specific results in individual cases.

  • Can treatment help with headaches caused by teeth grinding?

Some patients with CMD suffer from tension headaches related to overworked chewing muscles. In such cases, relaxing the muscles can have a beneficial effect. We will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you after conducting a functional analysis. There is no guarantee of success.
